Social Worker Recognition

Through our long-standing partnership with the County of Santa Cruz Human Services Department, Families In Transition is very fortunate to benefit from the services of several highly skilled Social Workers who provide intensive supports and links to resources for eligible FIT families. The County of Santa Cruz Board of Supervisors honored their team for outstanding service to the community.

During the past fiscal year, FIT worked with 291 homeless and at-risk families throughout Santa Cruz County. Providing opportunities for stable housing, economic development, and connection to supportive services. Individual situations vary greatly, and FIT staff works to link each family with the resources that will best fit their goals and needs.

FIT works with families to obtain and maintain housing through a variety of strategies- including transitional housing, assistance to prevent eviction, move-in costs and temporary rental assistance. In addition to financial help- we assist families in developing good tenant skills and work with landlords on problem solving. 80% of the families we worked with were stably housed at exit from the program.

Increased Income and Money Management Skills
Access to stable housing is only one step for families. The ability to maintain that housing long term is essential. FIT works with families to develop realistic budgets, learn financial literacy skills and gain or maintain employment. In the last fiscal year 97% of participants increased their financial ability to care for their families.

FIT has been very active in the community – participating in The Human Race, Day of the Child, Project Homeless Connect and other activities to get the word out about our programs.
